Somerfield is to trial toy sales as part of a concessions deal with Woolworths.

The supermarket will launch a convenience-focused food trial in three Woolworths stores within the next six months as part of a trial with the high street retailer

Products on offer will include “everything customers would expect from their local Somerfield store”, said Woolworths CEO Trevor Bish-Jones, including sandwiches, ready meals and fresh fruit.

In return, Somerfield will trial the sale of Woolworths goods in 11 stores. It plans to open 3,000 sq ft Woolworths branded concessions in three Somerfield stores, selling homewares, toys and home entertainment, but not confectionery, later this month.

It will also trial the sale of Woolworths' value range Worthit! in eight stores.

“Somerfield has a history of working successfully with partners like Peacocks and Robert Dyas in its larger stores to offer customers a broader range of products,” said Somerfield CEO Paul Mason.

“A recent review of our estate has highlighted further partner opportunities in some of our larger stores and I am pleased that we are running the concession and Wall of Value trials with Woolworths.”
