EU criticises China again

Toys identified as the product most likely to pose a danger to European consumers.
China is the main source of dangerous goods in Europe, according to a report by the European Commission.
The report found that the number of dangerous goods removed from European markets had increased by 53 per cent on the previous year, with the majority being toys, vehicles and electrical items.
EU Consumer Affairs Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva (pictured), said the figure was a reflection that the EU’s rapid alert system was working better than ever before in finding risky products, and not that the EU market was being flooded by sub standard products.
"I believe that the Chinese government has realised the importance of product safety and of protecting the 'made-in-China' brand," Kuneva said.
Kuneva is due to visit Beijing in June and will host a summit on product safety with China and the US in November.
